Sabancı University is hosting a photography exhibition by Prof Yao Lu, from China Central Academy of Fine Arts. This exhibition can be visited from 2 - 30 November 2022 at FASS Art Gallery, Sabancı University.
Description of Yao Lu’s artworks
The Metal series was created in 2003 and is a continuation of his earliest artworks, the Apple series. It is a visual game and puzzle. At the same time, he has a strong interest in visualizing the material changes of the subjects.
The Burning series was created in 2006. Although it contains traces of the Metal and Apple series, the artwork involves artificial interference on the subject. Although it still has the component of a visual game, the burning effect is there for the tendency of violent aesthetics. The content of the incineration also contains attitudes and emotions towards the culture.
The Folding Fan series is a part of Yao Lu’s new landscape artworks. The format uses the traditional Chinese literati folding fan as the main subject. In addition, the series continues to use the “dust-proof shield” from the construction site. The content is stitched together to create a lush and green landscape effect. There is a narration about different animals in the photographs expressing the relationship between us, human beings, living creatures, and the natural habitat.
The above four works are newly created this year (2022). There is no unified title series yet. These artworks were created and commissioned for the Beijing NFT Art Week (Thinking Digital) exhibition during the covid-pandemic period. The artworks are still related to Chinese culture and historical monuments. The content is absurd and bizarre, resulting in uncertainty in the future.
This exhibition can be visited from 2 - 30 November 2022 at FASS Art Gallery, Sabancı University.
