Mete Atatüre's Conference on the Imagination of Physics to Take Place on December 20th

Prof. Mete Atatüre, a member of Sabancı University's "Distinguished Research Fellowship" program and Director of the Cavendish Laboratory at the University of Cambridge's Physics Department, will give a talk entitled "The Imagination of Physics" at the Academy of Sciences' Conference of the Year on December 20th.

In his talk, Academy of Sciences member Mete Atatüre will address the phenomenon of emergence in condensed matter physics, one of the most dynamic fields of modern physics. Atatüre's talk will open up a discussion on the current limits of physics and fundamental questions about the future, within a broad framework ranging from the unexpected behaviors of complex systems to the role of scientific creativity. The conference is open to the public and free of charge.

About Mete Atatüre: 

Mete Atatüre, a graduate of Bilkent University's Physics Department, completed his PhD at Boston University's Quantum Imaging Laboratory and worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Quantum Photonics Group of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. A member of the Academy of Sciences, Mete Atatüre is currently the 16th director of the Cavendish Laboratory at Cambridge University's Physics Department, where 30 Nobel laureates have worked. His numerous awards include the Thomas Young Medal and Award (2020) and the Koç University Rahmi M. Koç Science Medal (2024). In addition to his research, Mete Atatüre is a respected and influential science communicator who works to promote scientific thought, scientific integrity, and diversity and equality in science.
