Dear Sabancı University students, faculty members and administrators,
We are excited to celebrate the 20th year of our university in the 2019 – 2020 academic year. We started out 20 years ago to make a difference in higher education and create a global university in Turkey, and we are just as excited and hopeful as we were 20 years ago when we envision our future.
I have been a part of Sabancı University since its establishment and am proud to see a relatively young university achieving so much and its pioneering role, changing higher education in Turkey.
In every institution, success and sustainability depend on strong foundations. A key difference of Sabancı University is its educational philosophy that has been proven over the past 20 years.
Our globally recognized faculty members, our state-of-the-art campus, and our educational system that has proven its worth over 20 years provide the best environment for our faculty and students to excel. All these achievements make Sabancı University family and all stakeholders proud.
The core purpose of our university is to raise individuals who uphold universal values. Adopting the philosophy of creating and developing together, Sabancı University students and alumni distinguish in every environment with their self-confidence and solution-oriented nature. As global citizens our alumni, successfully represent us with their influential positions in academia and business in worldwide, by their self-awareness, civic and environmental sensibility, and freedom of thought.
This year, Sabancı University was the institution of choice for the best and most successful candidates as it has been for the past nineteen years. I am sure that our welcoming students will recognize the privilege of being a Sabancı student from the first day and forward shape the future world.
Today, Sabancı University is defining the standards on a number of scientific achievements and groundbreaking projects that shape the future. We are among the best of universities in Turkey with the quality and uniqueness of our programs, as well as our research output that signifies our contribution both to science and society.
Our ultimate goal for the future is to go beyond being Turkey's best and to become a global institution and a research university that is recognized and admired worldwide. We are continuously working and taking steps to enhance our research infrastructure to achieve this goal. Our centers that have been established in recent years conduct national and international projects in grand scale. We focus on what the future holds for us, like we have been for two decades.
Sabancı University has been at the forefront of scientific research since its early years. We currently have more than 150 active research projects being carried out by our faculty members, researchers and students. These include projects funded by TÜBİTAK and international sources such as European Union (EU) funds. Our university receives the highest number of projects from research support institutions in Turkey for many years. We receive the most research fund per faculty member in EU-funded projects. We contribute locally, regionally and globally while maintaining excellent ties with our communities.
Dear Sabancı University Family,
First and foremost, I would like to honor the memories of our Honorary Chairman, the late Sakıp Sabancı, our Founding President, the late Tosun Terzioğlu, and our founding Secretary-General, the late Hüsnü Paçacıoğlu. I am grateful to the Sabancı Foundation and our Founding Chairman of the Board of Trustees Güler Sabancı for their unwavering support since the very beginning. I would also like to thank our Board of Trustees and to all stakeholders for their contributions.
After twenty years, we are just as excited for the future as we were on our first day. I am confident that, powered by our excitement and enthusiasm, we will reach great and world-leading achievements year after year. I invite everyone to be a part of our journey and wish an outstanding academic year to all.
