Sabancı University continues to add value to science and society with its leadership in such international projects. The approved programs provide young researchers with opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and developing solutions to global challenges.
PhD Academies, offering significant opportunities for young researchers, support both academic and sectoral career development, while Graduate Seminars contribute to the early research processes of doctoral students. With free registration and travel grants, the goal is to encourage participation from various disciplines. Each event is supported with a €25,000 budget, providing participants with high-level learning and collaboration opportunities.

Advanced Wireless Technologies for Enhancing the Radio Interface from 5G towards 6G – Presented by İbrahim Tekin, Özgür Gürbüz, and Korkut Kaan Tokgöz. This seminar series will cover the key enabling technologies for next generation wireless systems, considering antennas, communications and hardware perspectives. With the evolution of the mobile communication networks from the fifth generation (5G) to the sixth generation (6G), capabilities including immersive experiences, massive communication and ubiquitous connectivity are stringently required. International Mobile Telecommunications 2030 (IMT-2030) is expected to connect humans, machines and all surroundings, allowing advanced human-machine interfaces and high resolution video systems (e.g. XR displays) for extending the real world. From 5G towards 6G, technologies for enhancing the radio interface include, full duplex communication, massive MIMO (multiple input multiple output), Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM), MEMS antennas, Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) for reaching high data rates within the bandwidths available at mm-wave , sub-Terahertz (THz) and THz frequencies. In particular, the THz band, with a frequency range from 0.1THz to 10THz and wavelength from 3 millimeters to 30 micrometers, can support unprecedented throughput thanks to its multi-hundred gigahertz continuous bandwidth resources, and therefore represents a perfect solution for 6G networks. In this seminar series, the attendees will have the opportunity to learn about all aspects of the above- mentioned enabling technologies towards 6G, from antennas, communications, integrated communication and sensing to radio transceivers hardware. Moreover, these seminars will provide a comprehensive overview of the innovations introduced by the new standard specifications for beyond 5G, and the recent research and standardization trends towards 6G.
Mediterranean History and National Historiographies – Led by Abdurrahman Atçıl and Tommaso Stefini, this seminar, set to take place at Venice International University (VIU) in 2026, will examine the rich interconnectedness of the Mediterranean world in terms of politics, economy, culture, and diplomacy. The seminar will feature in-depth discussions of primary sources and demonstrate how Mediterranean history can enhance both global and national historiographies. Participants will also visit historic sites in Venice, highlighting the city’s pivotal role in Mediterranean history.
The PhD Academy entitled "Preventing and Combating Violence against Women - the Istanbul Convention after EU Accession" is coordinated by Sara De Vido (Ca' Foscari University of Venice), Zeynep Gülru Göker (Sabanci University) and Marina Calloni (University of Milano-Bicocca). Other professors involved in the program are Ayşe Betül Çelik (Sabanci University), Cenk Özbay (Sabanci University), Michaela Frulli (University of Florence), Sara Dal Monico (Ca' Foscari University of Venice) and Olaf Koendgen (Council of Europe, OCEAN network). The PhD Academy will be open to participants from the fields of law, social and political philosophy, gender studies and social sciences. In cooperation with the UNIRE network (UNiversità In REte contro la violenza di genere), OCEAN (the Open Council of Europe Academic Networks) and SU Gender (Sabanci University Gender and Women's Studies Center of Excellence), the aim of this Academy is to provide participants with an in-depth and highly qualified legal, philosophical, sociological and political analysis of the content, interpretation, implementation and application of the Council of Europe Istanbul Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence. Participants will acquire knowledge of how the landscape of violence against women has changed with the adoption of the Convention and the subsequent accession of the EU, explore legal, political and sociological perspectives on gender-based violence, and acquire transversal skills in dialogue with academics, civil society and policy experts.
