Discussions on Body and Health from a Gender Perspective Begin

SU Gender is starting a new event series called Discussions on Body and Health from a Gender Perspective. This series aims to cover various issues related to body and health from a gender perspective and to raise awareness about unknown or unquestioned aspects.

SU Gender also plans to address current discussions on health and body policies, sexual rights, and reproductive rights with the events to be organized, and to bring together academics, researchers, experts, and public and civil society workers involved in the subject through these discussions.

In the first panel of the series, to be held on Friday, October 18th on the occasion of Breast Cancer Awareness and Consciousness Month, Sabancı University Faculty Member Ayşecan Terzioğlu will address the social and cultural dimensions of breast cancer in the context of the relationship between health and gender.

Later, Işıl Bayraktar, winner of the 2023 Şirin Tekeli Research Award and a researcher from the Department of Sociology at Kyoto University, will discuss the treatment processes related to breast cancer in different dimensions and in the light of various experiences.

Finally, Sabancı University Faculty Member and Surgitate founder Özge Akbulut will talk about the #caresivar project, which aims to encourage breast self-examination, body awareness, and routine check-ups, and introduce the campaign carried out within this scope. It is also hoped that this event will create a discussion platform for university, civil society, business, and art world collaboration.
