Applications for exemption from ENG101/102
Students who want exemption from ENG 101 and ENG 102 with ABITUR, MATURA, IB or GCE certificate, from only ENG 101 with AP certificate must apply to the Foundations Development Directorate (room FENS G016) until 17:00 on September, 30th. These students are required to give the original certificate or the true copy for the application. As a prerequisite, these students must have gotten the required scores in the ELAE or PTE Academic, or IELTS Academic, or TOEFL PBT or TOEFL IBT.
Unless a written statement is given to FDD within the above indicated deadline, the student is required to take the course in the first semester that it is offered.

EXEMPTION FROM THE FIRST YEAR UNIVERSITY COURSES
Students who fulfill the outlined requirements are entitled for exemption from “Freshman English I & II” (ENG 101-102).
ENG 101- 102 Freshman English
Students are entitled for exemption *
- only from ENG 101, if they have at least a 3 in “English Language and Composition” part and/or “English Literature and Composition” part of the Advanced Placement (AP**) exam AND if they get
o a C-SL in the 2nd stage of English Language Assessment Exam (ELAE), or
o at least 60 in PTE Academic, or
o at least a 550 in TOEFL PBT
o at least an 80 in TOEFL-IBT, or
o at least a 6,5 in IELTS Academic
- only from ENG 101, if they get at least a B+ in the “Freshman English I Exemption Exam (FEEE 101***)” PROVIDED THAT they have gotten
o an A-SL from the 2nd stage of English Language Assessment Exam, or
o at least 80 in PTE Academic, or
o at least a 637 in TOEFL PBT
o at least a 110 in TOEFL-IBT, or
o at least an 8 in IELTS Academic
- from ENG 102, only if they get an A in the “Freshman English I Exemption Exam (FEEE 101***)” AND at least a B+ in the “Freshman English II Exemption Exam (FEEE102****)”.
- from both ENG 101 and ENG 102, if they have the required grades in the following diploma programs:
o At least a 5 in IB (International Baccalaureate) English A, or
o At least a 10 in the ABITUR, English component, or
o At least a “Good” in the MATURA, English component from the Austrian High School or
o At least a “C” in GCE Advanced Level English (A' Level English)
PROVIDED THATthey get at least
- a C-SL from the 2nd stage of English Language Assesment Exam, or
- at least 60 in PTE Academic, or
- at least a 550 in TOEFL PBT
- at least an 80 in TOEFL-IBT, or
- at least a 6,5 in IELTS Academic

(***) FEEE101 is offered every semester in the first week of classes at Sabanci University.
(****) FEEE102 is offered in the Spring semester in the first week of classes at Sabanci University.
A reading list, and time and place for the exam for FEEE101 and/or FEEE 102 will be announced on the University website one week prior to the exam. Students are expected to write an essay and give a presentation / interview on these texts.
