Sabancı Business School Earns AACSB Accreditation, Proves Its International Excellence

Following the cooperation agreement with the MIT Sloan School of Management in early 2011, Sabancı University took another important step in internationalization: The Sabancı Business School earned the AACSB International Accreditation, the mark of excellence for business schools offering degrees in management.  Founded in 1916, AACSB (the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) International is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees in business and accounting.

“AACSB congratulates Sabancı University, and Dean Nakiye Boyacıgiller on becoming the second university in Turkey to earn accreditation, and we welcome them into the family of AACSB accredited business schools,” said John J. Fernandes, president and chief executive officer of AACSB International. “AACSB Accreditation represents the highest achievement for an educational institution that awards business degrees. Dean Boyacıgiller and the faculty, directors, and staff of Sabancı University are to be commended for their role in earning accreditation.”
“It takes a great deal of self evaluation and determination to earn AACSB Accreditation, and I commend Sabancı University for its dedication to management education, as well as its leadership in earning accreditation,” said Jerry Trapnell, executive vice president and chief accreditation officer of AACSB International.  “Through accreditation, Sabancı University has not only met specific standards of excellence, but has also made a commitment to ongoing improvement to ensure that the institution will continue to deliver high quality education to its students.”
Sabancı Business School Dean Professor Nakiye Boyacıgiller : “It is important that we are accredited by a global institution, proving our international standards.”

Sabancı Business School Dean Professor Nakiye Boyacıgiller said, “The AACSB Accreditation is a huge success and a milestone for us.  During the five-year accreditation process, we proved that we had attained international standards in 21 different fields.  Although there are more than 13,000 management schools in the world and this number keeps rising, only 5% of them are accredited by the AACSB International, an institution that goes back almost a century.  It is important that we are accredited by a global institution, proving our international standards.

“During this long process, we conducted self-evaluations and involved all of our colleagues, students, alumni and other stakeholders.  By earning accreditation, we took another step in possessing world-class undergraduate and graduate programs and students.  Our cooperation with the MIT Sloan School of Management and the recent AACSB Accreditation are important steps in advancing our international presence.  The AACSB Accreditation also adds significant value to the diplomas of our alumni.
“Meanwhile, we continue our efforts to become the strongest school of management in the region.  You will keep hearing good news from us.”

Founded in 1916, AACSB is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees in business and accounting.  AACSB Accreditation is the hallmark of excellence in business education, and has been earned by less than five percent of the world's business schools.  Today, there are more than 13,000 management programs globally, but only 633 business schools in 40 countries that maintain AACSB Accreditation.

Achieving accreditation is a process of rigorous internal review, evaluation, and adjustment and can take several years to complete.

During these years, the school develops and implements a plan to meet the AACSB Accreditation standards, which require a high quality teaching environment, a commitment to continuous improvement, and curricula responsive to the needs of businesses. Also required by the AACSB standards, all accredited schools must go through a peer review process every five years in order to maintain their accreditation.
