Sabancı University academics played a key role in the graduate-level seminar titled "Advanced Wireless Technologies for Enhancing the Radio Interface from 5G towards 6G," held at Venice International University (VIU). The program, in which Sabancı University participated as one of the leading institutions, brought together academics and young researchers from various countries in Venice to discuss next-generation wireless communication technologies.
Held from September 7 to 11, 2026, the program was led on behalf of Sabancı University by Prof. Dr. İbrahim Tekin, a faculty member at the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences. Prof. Dr. Özgür Gürbüz and Dr. Korkut Kaan Tokgöz, also faculty members at the Sabancı University Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, contributed academically to the program, which also involved the University of Padua and KU Leuven.
Prof. Dr. İbrahim Tekin also undertook the scientific coordination of the program alongside Michele Zorzi from the University of Padua and Sofie Pollin from KU Leuven. Thus, Sabancı University played an active role throughout the process, from scientific coordination to the development of the program's academic content.
Next-Generation Wireless Technologies from 5G to 6G Were Examined
The seminar addressed the technologies enabling next-generation wireless systems during the transition from 5G to 6G, examining them from antenna, communication, and hardware perspectives. The program focused on current research topics such as mm-wave and terahertz technologies, reconfigurable intelligent surfaces, full-duplex communication, antenna technologies, integrated communication and sensing, and next-generation radio interfaces.
Five graduate students from Sabancı University participated in the program, which brought together graduate students from various universities. While the students had the opportunity to present their own research, they also received direct feedback on their work during one-on-one sessions with academics. Thus, the program not only helped graduate students refine their research but also fostered an environment for the exchange of knowledge and experience among researchers from different universities.
A Strong Contribution to International Academic Collaboration
Led by Sabancı University, the University of Padua, and KU Leuven, the seminar brought together academics and researchers from various universities on a shared scientific platform to discuss next-generation wireless communication technologies, including 6G.
The program served as a prime example of the collaborations Sabancı University has established within global academic networks and its active role in international knowledge sharing.
