Sabancı University, which contributes to society with its work in the field of technology and energy with Siro Silk Road Clean Energy Storage Technologies, which was established in partnership with Togg and Farasis Energy to develop clean energy storage solutions, signed a letter of intent to design graduate programs in the field of batteries and energy storage for the first time in Turkey.
Siro, which develops clean energy storage solutions for a sustainable world, and Sabancı University, which contributes to the production and development of knowledge with the mission of "creating and developing together", joined forces to train human resources in the field of battery technologies. According to the letter of intent signed between Siro and Sabancı University, engineering programs at master's and doctoral levels will be designed for the first time in Turkey to specialize in the technology of batteries used in electric mobility and the storage of energy obtained from renewable energy sources. Within the scope of the program, training will be designed and implemented not only on technical issues but also in line with the sustainable life cycle of the battery, starting from the engineering and design phase to production, integration, secondary life, and recycling.
The meeting was attended by Siro Chair of the Board Gürcan Karakaş, Farasis President and CEO Binbo Chen, Farasis International Business Development Vice President Feng Zhang, Siro Commercial General Manager Naci Özgür Özel, Siro Technical General Manager Zafer Kara, Sabancı University Secretary General Ali Çalışkan, and Sabancı University Vice President Mehmet Yıldız. Naci Özgür Özel and Ali Çalışkan signed the letter of intent on behalf of the parties.
In the graduate programs planned to be implemented within the framework of the signed letter of intent, it will be possible to specialize in subjects such as battery chemistry, battery mechatronics, battery manufacturing, and battery software. As a complement to university education, activities that will broaden students' horizons, such as internship programs at Siro and Farasis facilities in Turkey, the USA, and China, student exchange programs, and scholarships at different universities around the world are also planned.
“We will support young people with all our means for clean energy”
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Siro Commercial General Manager Naci Özgür Özel stated that human resources in the field of battery technologies and energy storage are extremely limited all over the world and said, “Operating with the vision of "We exist to make the world livable with clean energy storage solutions", Siro aims to build the battery ecosystem holistically, end-to-end, in a wide region, and sees it as its responsibility to train the sophisticated and expert human resources that the battery ecosystem needs. Since it is a technology available in very few countries in the world, there are extremely limited human resources in the field of battery technologies. Therefore, training people and developing competencies in this regard is of critical importance for the sustainability of our business and the ecosystem. In this context, we are coming together with Sabancı University for a clean future and new generations. We are very pleased to cooperate with Sabancı University, one of the most valuable universities in our country and a pioneer in designing and executing interdisciplinary programs. Within the scope of the cooperation, we aim to train young talents at all stages in line with the needs of the battery ecosystem with our R&D Laboratories, development centers, production facilities, and expertise, and ultimately to grow the battery ecosystem together with the young people we train and make Siro one of the most important energy players in the region.”
“We contribute to society through science and education by producing innovative technologies”
Sabancı University Secretary General Ali Çalışkan said, “At Sabancı University, we attach great importance to university-industry collaborations. We always support projects that contribute to society by producing innovative technologies. We are a university with an interdisciplinary education approach. As a reflection of this, we started a very important project for our country with Siro, which was established in partnership with Togg, Turkey's first domestic and national automobile manufacturer, and Farasis Energy, and develops clean energy storage solutions. We think that Togg, Turkey's internationally prestigious project, should be supported in the best way possible. In this sense, battery technologies, one of the most critical elements of clean energy, are also of great importance. Together with Siro, we are implementing this project, which is a first in Turkey in the battery and energy storage industry. At Sabancı University, we are excited to contribute to the training of expert human resources that our country needs in battery technologies with this letter of intent we signed with Siro. I would like to thank our university staff and the Siro team who contributed to the project reaching this stage.”
