Sabancı University Faculty Member Dr. Polat Göktaş Appointed Science Communication Coordinator of COST AI-GUIDE

Polat Göktaş, a faculty member in Sabancı University’s Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, has been elected to the Core Management Group of COST Action CA25157, AI-Governance, Use, and Impact for a Dynamic European R&I Ecosystem (AI-GUIDE). The Action brings together a European network committed to advancing the responsible, practical, and inclusive integration of generative artificial intelligence (AI) across research and innovation.

 

 

AI-GUIDE’s inaugural Management Committee meeting (MC1) was held in Brussels, Belgium, on 8 September 2026. The meeting brought together more than 45 participants representing 26 countries to establish the Action’s work programme, collaboration mechanisms, and leadership structure. Türkiye was represented by Polat Göktaş of Sabancı University and Gülşen Eryiğit of Istanbul Technical University.

During the meeting, Polat Göktaş was elected Science Communication Coordinator, joining AI-GUIDE’s Core Management Group. In this capacity, he will help raise the visibility of the network’s scientific activities and outputs, support stakeholder engagement and dissemination, and facilitate knowledge exchange across the European research and innovation community.

 

 

AI-GUIDE brings together experts from across Europe in a multidisciplinary structure. At its first Management Committee meeting, Jonas Krebs (Spain) was elected Action Chair, while Ellen Schenk (the Netherlands) was elected Vice-Chair. The Working Group leadership includes Hiwa Målen (Norway) for Policy Landscape, Governance and Harmonisation; Agnieszka Żyra (Poland) for Living Guidelines and Knowledge Hub; Stephan Stadlbauer (Austria) for Repository and Safe-Lab Network; Youyou Wu (United Kingdom) for Emerging Topics, Foresight and Impact Assessment; Iris Uribesalgo (Spain) for Stakeholder Engagement and Dissemination; and Rita Gil Mata (Portugal) for Training and Capacity Building. Polat Göktaş (Türkiye) serves as Science Communication Coordinator, while Jörg Osterrieder (Switzerland) serves as Grant Awarding Coordinator.
