President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced the 10 goals of Turkey’s National Space Program (NSP) for the following 10 years at the NPS ceremony held on February 9, 2021. In this ceremony, it was highlighted that Turkey's National Space Program could only be realized with the cooperation of universities and the public and private sectors, and protocols and agreements were signed for 4 major projects that will contribute to the achievement of the stated goals.
Sabancı University President Yusuf Leblebici signed the contract for the project designed by the Turkish Space Agency, TUBITAK Space, and Sabancı University named "Enhanced X-Ray Timing and Polarimetry Satellite Wide Area Monitoring Application Software” at the ceremony held within the scope of the National Space Program.
In the other three projects initiated to contribute to achieving the Turkish National Space Program’s 10 goals within 10 years:
- The "Protocol on the Establishment of National Satellite Manufacturing Company” was signed by Turkish Aerospace, Türksat and TÜBİTAK Space under the coordination of the Turkish Space Agency.
- The “Scientific and Technological Collaboration in Aviation and Space Technologies Protocol" was signed by the Turkish Space Agency and Istanbul Technical University.
- The “Joint R&D and Technology Development Studies and Collaboration Protocol in the Space Technology Development Zone to be Established” was signed by the Turkish Space Agency, METU and METU Technopark.
The ceremony held in the scope of the Turkish National Space Program took place with the participation of the President of the Turkish Republic Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank, Turkey Space Agency President Serdar Huseyin Yildirim, President of TÜBİTAK Hasan Mandal, TAI General Manager Temel Kotil, Turksat Director General Hassan Hussein Ertok, TUBITAK Space Institute Director Massoud Gökten, Sabancı University President Yusuf Leblebici, Istanbul Technical University President İsmail Koyuncu, Middle East Technical University President Mustafa Verşan Kök, and METU Teknokent General Manager Serdar Alemdar.
