On August 31, 2026, Sabancı University hosted a high-level delegation from Nanjing University, one of China's leading research universities. The delegation, headed by Prof. Tan Tieniu, Chair of the CPC Council of Nanjing University, included deans from various academic fields and representatives from international relations.

The Nanjing University delegation met with senior representatives from three faculties and the International Relations Office of Sabancı University, led by Vice President for Education Prof. Cem Güneri. The delegation later met with Sabancı University President Prof. Yusuf Leblebici.

The visit highlighted the similarities between the two universities in terms of interdisciplinary education, academic flexibility offered to students, and research-oriented university structures, while also laying an important foundation for new collaborations. Artificial intelligence, computer science, materials science, environmental sciences, and global humanities were among the areas where new collaboration opportunities were evaluated between the two universities.

The research-oriented student programs of both universities also created new collaboration opportunities. The visit highlighted potential connections between Sabancı University’s Program for Undergraduate Research (PURE) and Nanjing University’s Global Research Immersion Program for Young Scientists, as well as new opportunities to increase undergraduate and postgraduate student mobility.
One of the key outcomes of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Sabancı University and Nanjing University. This agreement establishes an institutional framework for new collaborations between the two universities in the fields of education and research.
