Sabancı University made a strong representation at the 22nd European Conference on Composite Materials (ECCM22), held in Oslo, Norway, with its studies covering nanomaterial integration, advanced composite materials, manufacturing processes, structural performance, damage analysis, and repair technologies.

The 22nd European Conference on Composite Materials (ECCM22), one of the leading scientific events in the field of composite materials in Europe, was held in Oslo, Norway, between June 21-25, 2026. Within the scope of the conference, researchers from Sabancı University's Integrated Manufacturing Technologies Research and Application Center (SU-IMC) / Composite Technologies Center of Excellence participated with their studies covering different research and application areas of composite materials.
The research groups of Prof. Dr. Mehmet Yıldız and Prof. Dr. Burcu Saner Okan from Sabancı University presented a strong research portfolio covering the entire value chain of composite technologies with their studies presented in different sessions at the conference. The presentations covered topics such as nanomaterial integration, advanced composite materials, carbon fiber reinforced composites, thermoplastic laminates, interface and interphase engineering, electrical conductivity, damage and fracture analysis, characterization of production processes, evaluation of automated production waste, and repair technologies for composite structures.

The conference also presented research outputs from the “Lightweight, Sustainable and Energy-Efficient Designs and Production Methods for Upcycled Graphene Reinforced Hybrid Composites” (Light-G-Comp) Project, led by Prof. Dr. Burcu Saner Okan. The project focused on the integration of graphene obtained from waste sources into carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites, and the development of lightweight, sustainable, and energy-efficient design and production methods for aerospace applications.
Presentations by Prof. Dr. Mehmet Yıldız's research group covered interface and interphase engineering in composite materials, thermoplastic sandwich structures, production technologies, structural performance, damage mechanisms, and repair applications. These presentations highlighted the importance of a holistic approach to composite structures, not only in the material design phase but also in the production, use, damage analysis, and repair processes.
The studies presented at ECCM22 demonstrated that Sabancı University possesses a broad research ecosystem in the field of composite materials, ranging from fundamental research to industrial applications. The contributions of Sabancı University researchers provided significant international visibility into the development of high-performance, sustainable, and functional composite technologies for aerospace, automotive, and advanced engineering applications.
This comprehensive representation once again showcased the research strength of Sabancı University's Integrated Manufacturing Technologies Research and Application Center (SU-IMC) on an international platform, encompassing the entire lifecycle of composite materials, from material design and nanomaterial integration to process engineering, manufacturing, structural performance evaluation, and repair technologies.
