It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our esteemed professor, Emin Fuat Keyman, who served our university for many years.
We are deeply saddened by the loss of our esteemed Professor Emin Fuat Keyman, Sabancı University’s Vice President for Institutional Affairs and Social Impact, Director of the Istanbul Policy Center, and professor of international relations. Keyman, one of Turkey’s leading political scientists, specialized in globalization, democratization, international relations, Turkey-EU relations, Turkish foreign policy and the development of civil society. Keyman was a member of the Science Academy of Turkey.
Keyman, who sat on the advisory boards of many prestigious national and international organizations, served on the editorial boards of many important international academic journals. Our late faculty member won the Strategic Visionary Scientist Award within the scope of the 7th Tasam Strategic Vision Awards in 2013.
Our late Vice President Fuat Keyman was the research director of various projects such as Mapping Civil Society in Turkey, CIVICUS, and received support from the Turkish Council for Scientific and Technological Research on urbanization. In addition to his academic work, he had been sharing his thoughts and analyses about Turkey in a global context with the public since 2002 through various newspaper columns and television programs.
Prior to joining Sabancı University, Fuat Keyman taught in the Department of International Relations at Koç University between 2002 and 2010, in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Bilkent University between 1994 and 2002, and was a Visiting Scholar at Carleton University in the summer of 1997. He completed his postdoctoral studies at Wellesley College and Harvard University. Keyman received his PhD in International Relations and Comparative Politics from Carleton University, and his BA and MA degrees from Middle East Technical University.
The passing away of our Professor Fuat Keyman is a great loss for both our university and the world of education and science. We wish God's mercy upon him and extend our condolences to all his relatives, loved ones, students, and our university community.
PS: Our professor’s funeral ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, after the noon prayer at Teşvikiye Mosque. The burial ceremony will take place on Sunday, October 20, in Büyükhusun Village, Ayvacık, Çanakkale.
