Ankara Field Trip Held as Part of HIST 192 (Principles of Atatürk and History of the Turkish Revolution)

Anıtkabir

The Ankara field trip, organized for the second time by the Foundations Development Directorate as part of the HIST192 course, took place on Saturday, April 18, 2026. The trip brought together students enrolled in HIST 192, course instructors, teaching assistants, academic and administrative staff from the Foundations Development Directorate.

The itinerary centered on the Ulus district, which retains much of its early Republican character. Participants visited the War of Independence Museum (1st Grand National Assembly), the Republican Museum (2nd Grand National Assembly, and Ankara Palas. The group also explored several historically significant buildings in the area, including the Opera House, the 2nd Evkaf Apartment, Ziraat Bankası, Türkiye İş Bankası and the Victory Monument. Following Ulus, the group visited Anıtkabir.

The Ankara trip provided the students with the chance to observe the political, social and cultural fabric of the early Republican period firsthand, and helped them to connect the concepts explored in class to the physical spaces where history unfolded. The trip concluded with free time around Tunalı Hilmi Street.

Foundations Development Directorate extends gratitude to all the academics, teaching assistants, administrative staff and students who made this meaningful event possible. We look forward to trace the footsteps of history and learn it where it happened in the semesters to come.
