Büşra Nur Kılınç participated in the VIU PhD Academy on Wandering Across Sustainable Terrains and Environments, held between July 7 and 12, 2025. She wrote about her experience for GazeteSU.

Participating in the PhD Academy on “Wandering Across Sustainable Terrains and Environments” at Venice International University was a meaningful academic experience that encouraged me to think more critically and creatively about sustainability.
Through field visits and workshops, I had the chance to observe waste management practices in Venice and reflect on how environmental issues are experienced and addressed in everyday urban life. The integration of seminars, discussions, and fieldwork created a strong learning environment where theory and practice could come together.
Working alongside PhD researchers from diverse disciplines and attending sessions led by inspiring figures such as Susanne Franco, Gabriella Giannachi, and Allison Orr broadened my perspective on the role of the arts and the humanities in raising environmental awareness and fostering community engagement.
I believe this experience brought a new dimension to my research approach and reminded me of the importance of interdisciplinary and collaborative methods in addressing complex challenges such as the climate crisis.
