Information meetings were held for the new undergraduate Data Science and Analytics Program, which will provide training for data analysis skills that are highly needed in all institutions and stand out among the professions of the future, and the dynamic and interdisciplinary minor program Battery Science and Engineering.
The Data Science and Analytics information meetings held at Sabancı University Cinema Hall on Wednesday, September 25, and the Battery Science and Engineering Minor Program information meetings held at SUCool on Thursday, September 26, provided students who are new to the program and are in the program selection phase with the opportunity to direct their futures.
Great Interest in Data Science and Analytics Program
The information meeting, which started with the opening speeches of FASS Dean Meltem Müftüler-Baç and FENS Dean Erkay Savaş, attracted great interest from students.
In her opening speech regarding the newly opened program, FASS Dean Meltem Müftüler-Baç emphasized that social sciences are data-oriented and stated that they expect all students to be familiar with coding and mathematics. Emphasizing that programs such as Political Science and International Relations, Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design, and Psychology are also based on data analysis, Meltem Müftüler-Baç expressed her excitement about the program, which is a part of the interdisciplinary education system, to which all three faculties contribute.
Our FENS Dean Erkay Savaş stated that they have been conducting detailed and meticulous studies on this program for a long time. He stated that there are similar programs in Turkey, but the Sabancı University Data Science and Analytics program is interfaculty and students can take courses customized to their own faculties.
Following the opening speeches, students had the opportunity to obtain detailed information about the program specific to their faculties in the presentations made by Sabancı University faculty members and program coordinators Yücel Saygın, Erdal Aydın, and Enes Eryarsoy.

Prof. Dr. Halil Sadi Hamut, one of the managers of Siro Enerji, who pioneers battery technologies, drew attention to the need for future engineers to specialize in this field in light of industrial developments. He stated that all students interested in this field can also specialize in battery science by benefiting from Sabancı University's interdisciplinary approach and that they support them in this regard as a university.
In his opening speech on the subject, Erkay Savaş stated that batteries are very important in many areas, especially in electric vehicles, and that investments are being made in this regard in our country, and he also stated that they expect students to be interested in the minor program in the field of batteries, which will be one of the popular topics of the future.
Following the opening speeches, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences Faculty Member Alp Yürüm and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Halil Sadi Hamut from Siro Enerji gave students ideas on how to draw a roadmap for the professions of the future with their presentations on the minor program.
