Dr. Gülin Baran, a postdoctoral researcher at Sabancı University's Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, was awarded the Travel Award at the MPS World Summit held in Washington DC from May 26-29, 2026.
The Travel Award is given by IMPSS to honor researchers who have won support for participation and involvement in the MPS World Summit 2026.

In a statement made by the MPS World Summit organization, it was stated that the 2026 award recipients represent innovation, research achievements, and scientific momentum in the global MPS community.
This achievement by Dr. Gülin Baran contributes to the visibility of research activities carried out at Sabancı University and the academic ecosystem supporting young scientists on international platforms.
Who is Dr. Gülin Baran?
Dr. Gülin Baran completed her undergraduate studies in Genetics and Bioengineering at Yeditepe University in 2016. She received her master's degree in Medical Engineering from Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University in 2019, where she investigated the roles of long non-coding RNAs in disease mechanisms using genome editing and molecular biology-based approaches.
Dr. Gülin Baran received her PhD in Molecular Biology, Genetics, and Bioengineering from Sabancı University in 2025. As part of her doctoral studies, she developed a human cell-based glioblastoma disease model integrated with the blood-brain barrier using organ-on-a-chip and stem cell technologies to study glioblastoma biology and evaluate innovative treatment approaches.
She currently works as a postdoctoral researcher at the Mustafaoğlu Laboratory within the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences at Sabancı University. Gülin Baran is investigating the mechanisms underlying the rare metastatic spread of glioblastoma, the role of extracellular vesicles in biological processes associated with brain tumors, and their potential applications in diagnosis and treatment, using models that mimic human physiology.
