Dr. Polat Göktaş Elected as President of MCAA Turkey Chapter

Dr. Polat Göktaş, a faculty member at Sabancı University's Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, has been elected as the President of the MCAA Turkey Chapter for the 2026–2028 term within the Marie Curie Alumni Association (MCAA), the European Union's Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) research network.

 

 

About the Marie Curie Alumni Association (MCAA)

The Marie Curie Alumni Association (MCAA) is an international, non-profit community that brings together researchers who have received or are receiving support under the European Union's Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) research program. Supported by the European Commission and largely run by volunteers, the MCAA today has over 24,000 members and more than 50 country chapters and thematic working groups.

MCAA's core mission is to strengthen international collaborations among MSCA researchers, support researchers' career development, and be the common voice of scientists in the European research and innovation ecosystem. The association operates in many areas, including education, mentoring, networking, science diplomacy, and research policies.

About MCAA Turkey Chapter

MCAA Turkey Chapter aims to strengthen research collaborations by bringing together current and former Marie Skłodowska-Curie researchers in Turkey, attracting new researchers to the MCAA community, and increasing the visibility of MSCA programs in Turkey. Chapter membership is completely free and open to all MCAA members who are Turkish citizens or reside in Turkey.

About Dr. Polat Göktaş

Dr. Polat Göktaş is a faculty member at Sabancı University, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences. He completed his PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Bilkent University. As part of his doctoral studies, he was a Fulbright Doctoral Research Fellow at Harvard University, and in his postdoctoral period, he continued his research as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Researcher at University College Dublin. His work focuses on reliable and responsible artificial intelligence, AI governance, machine learning, and the applications of AI in health, environmental sustainability, and education.

In addition to his research, he actively participates in international scientific networks and research policy initiatives. He serves as the President of the Marie Curie Alumni Association (MCAA) Turkey Chapter for the 2026-2028 period; he is a member of the Turkey Management Committee of the European Union COST Action AI-GUIDE and a member of the Center for AI and Digital Policy (CAIDP) working group, which conducts international AI policy studies. He also contributes to AI, innovation, and young researchers through various international volunteer roles within IEEE. 

Dr. Göktaş has achieved national and international recognition for his academic work, receiving awards such as the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, the Fulbright Doctoral Research Fellowship, the IEEE Doctoral Research Award, the METU Serhat Özyar Young Scientist of the Year Award, and the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting Young Scientist Award.
