Finance Workshop Event Addresses Sustainable Finance

Sabancı Business School hosted the Finance Workshop event for the second time this year. During the Finance Workshop held on May 26 at Karaköy Minerva Han, expert speakers addressed the subject of sustainable finance in different dimensions with their presentations.

Bringing together finance professionals, the Finance Workshop event began with the opening speeches of Sabancı University President Yusuf Leblebici and Sabancı Business School Dean Ayşegül Toker. Leading academics in the field of finance Kai Li, Julian Koelbel, Vesa Pursiainen, and Emirhan İlhan took part in the event as speakers.

The ESG Funds Puzzle

In her presentation entitled “Green Products,” Prof. Kai Li from the University of British Columbia examined the relationship between green products, companies’ commitment to environmental sustainability, and corporate value/reputation. Assoc. Prof. Julian Koelbel from the University of St. Gallen shared his study on the fee structure of ESG investment funds in the US with the participants in his presentation entitled “The Puzzle of ESG Fund Fees”.

The Effects of Climate Change on Financial Decisions

Assoc. Prof. Vesa Pursiainen, from the University of St. Gallen, revealed the effects of competitive pressure on the sustainability efforts of companies with his study entitled “The Carbon Cost of Competitive Pressure”, while Assoc. Prof. Emirhan İlhan, a climate finance expert at the National University of Singapore, shared the effects of climate change on financial decisions with the participants with his research entitled “Sea Level Rise and Portfolio Choice”.

Jeong Ho Kim, the Winner of the Hakan Orbay Research Award for 2024

At the event, the Hakan Orbay Research Award for 2024 was presented to Assoc. Prof. Jeong Ho Kim from Florida State University, and Kim presented his research entitled “Optimal Communication in Banking Supervision”, for which he won the award.
