MIT Professors at Sabancı University

MIT Professors at Sabancı University

Professors from MIT are visiting Sabancı University this week.  Distinguished scholars from MIT gave lectures as part of their visit.

Professor Stuart Madnick, Baron of Langley, from the MIT Sloan School of Management and MIT Dean for Undergraduate Education  Professor Daniel Hastings gave lectures in the evening of Thursday, March 29th.

Professor Stuart Madnick of the MIT Sloan School of Management gave a speech titled "Web 3.0 is coming, will you be ready?” at the MBA ve EMBA alumni meeting held in the Sabancı University Sakıp Sabancı Museum – the Seed.

Stuart Madnick discussed the long-term objectives and useful tools and technologies associated with web 3.0.  Madnick reflected on the transition from web 1.0 to web 2.0 and what these two versions of the web brought, and said that web 3.0 would not only support new applications, but create applications in its own right.  Also discussing past difficulties with computers, Madnick argued that the situation would change rapidly with the transition to “semantic web.”  Saying that the semantic web is a progression of the current system, Stuart Madnick added that the system would enable users and computers to work in better harmony.  Madnick said that the semantic web would make it easier for computers to process and comprehend data, giving them strong reasoning skills.

Prof. Stuart Madnick

Professor Daniel Hastings gave a lecture titled “MIT and Education” in the seminar held at the Minerva Palas in Karaköy.  Hastings explained the education system at MIT, and mentioned international cooperation initiatives of the university.  Hastings said, “MIT is a national US university with an international vision.”  Hastings discussed the values of MIT and said that reputation was of utmost importance, and that reputation was a prime concern in the international initiatives that they undertook.
