Sabancı University reaches 374 students in 24 provinces through Winter High School

Realized online for the first time this year, Sabancı University Winter High School continued to host students from different parts of Turkey. Students participating in the education acquired basic information about university-level science and technology.

Turkey’s leading international research university, Sabancı University has been organizing Winter High School since 2011. The Winter High School enables young students at the age of 13-17 to develop themselves in different areas while preparing for a multi-cultural university environment. Due to the pandemic, the Winter High School was held online for the first time from January 25 to February 5, 202. The Winter High School was attended by 374 students from 24 provinces, namely Adana, Ankara, Antalya, Aydın, Bursa, Denizli, Diyarbakır, Edirne, Elazığ, Eskişehir, Gaziantep, Hatay, Isparta, İstanbul, İzmir, Kayseri, Kırklareli, Kocaeli, Konya, Mersin, Muğla, Rize, Sakarya and Samsun.

Students at the Sabancı University Winter High School can select courses from among more than 25 disciplines such as natural sciences, engineering, social sciences, arts, and management. Turning the holiday time into an entertaining learning process, this education program enables students to gain insights about their future university education, learn lessons from experienced faculty members of Sabancı University, and come together with the university’s alumni, who work and have experience in a wide range of sectors.

In addition to this interactive education, Sabancı University organized the Online Nanotechnology Winter School for the second time this year. Acquainting enthusiastic and curious high school students with current developments and applications in the field of nanotechnology, the Online Nanotechnology Winter School lasted for 2 weeks with learning sessionsevery weekday.

Furthermore, the students had an online meeting with Cem Güneri, the Vice President for Education at Sabancı University, and received answers to all their questions about Sabancı University.

Pınar Türker, Counselling System Specialist at Sabancı University Center for Individual and Academic Development, made recommendations to the students about stress management, motivation, and self-awareness. 

Students attending the Sabancı University Online Winter School stated that, from this experience, they learned basic information before their university education, adding that it was really very useful for them to have preliminary information about the future profession they intended to choose. Specifying that they were able to obtain comprehensive information about nanotechnology, the students expressed their ambition to be a part of this experience again in the future.
