The Sabancı University Rocket Team (SUROC) took its engineering work to the international stage at the 77th International Astronautical Congress (IAC 2026), held in Antalya from October 5–9, 2026. As part of the congress, the team presented its technical work on flight safety and recovery systems for its experimental rocket, showcasing its innovative engineering approach to the global space community.

Bringing together space agencies, academics, researchers, and industry professionals from around the world, the congress provided an international platform for SUROC to present its study titled “Safety-Gated Staged Recovery for Preventing False Activation in High-Altitude Experimental Rockets” through an Interactive Presentation. The research focused on a safety-oriented approach designed to prevent false or premature activation of recovery systems during high-altitude rocket flights.

As part of the team's engineering efforts, avionics systems, flight data analysis, and mechanical separation mechanisms were integrated into the development of a multi-layered recovery safety architecture. The presentation highlighted the significance of this approach in enhancing the reliability and flight safety of experimental rockets.

Throughout the congress, SUROC had the opportunity to explore the latest advancements in the global space and aerospace sectors, exchange insights with leading researchers and industry professionals, and establish valuable connections. The knowledge and experiences gained during the event will contribute to the team's ongoing development and future engineering projects.

Driven by its interdisciplinary engineering approach, SUROC continues to advance its rocket technologies and proudly represent Sabancı University on national and international platforms.
