A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening academic and scientific collaborations between Sabancı University and the University of Edinburgh was put into effect during a signing ceremony held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

As part of the program hosted by Sabancı University President Yusuf Leblebici, a committee from the University of Edinburgh, including the Regius (Royal) Chair Professor and the Director of the Integrated Micro and Nano Systems Research Institute, Prof. Dr. Themis Prodromakis, and the School of Chemistry faculty member and the Director of Internationalization, Prof. Dr. Philip Camp, met with the administrators and academics from Sabancı University.

During the meetings, opportunities for joint work in the fields of education, research, and international academic collaboration were discussed. Following these discussions, a partnership agreement was signed between the two universities.
Within the scope of the signed memorandum of understanding, the parties aim to develop joint research projects, particularly in the fields of science and engineering; support student and researcher exchange programs; and carry out collaborative studies at both undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, plans are underway to develop models such as joint research applications, dual degree programs, and co-supervised theses in the future.

As part of the program, the University of Edinburgh delegation toured the Sabancı University campus and held one-on-one meetings with faculty members. The committee also visited the Sabancı University Nanotechnology Research and Application Center (SUNUM), where they received information about the center’s advanced technology and research activities. Following a meeting with Erkay Savaş, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, comprehensive evaluations were conducted regarding the opportunities for cooperation in research areas.
Later in the day, Prof. Dr. Philip Camp met with Prof. Dr. Canan Atılgan, Prof. Dr. Ali Koşar, and Prof. Dr. Ali Rana Atılgan, while Prof. Dr. Themis Prodromakis held meetings with our President Yusuf Leblebici and Dr. Korkut Kaan Tokgöz.
The agreement signed between the two well-established institutions is expected to make a significant contribution to strengthening international research networks and increasing academic mobility.
