As part of the Science Cafe events initiated last year by the Council of Higher Education (CoHE), Sabancı University will bring together faculty members and young people in Ankara. The Ankara Science Cafe event, organized by Sabancı University, invites participants to an interdisciplinary exploration focusing on artificial intelligence, algorithms, and creativity.

At the event, Sabancı University academics Dr. İnanç Arın and Prof. Dr. Selçuk Artut will discuss the impact of current technologies on individuals and society from different perspectives. The event, which will take place on Saturday, April 18th, between 10:00 and 12.30 at the Ankara HiltonSA Hotel, will begin with an opening speech by Sabancı University President Prof. Dr. Yusuf Leblebici.
Artificial Intelligence, Art, and Human Creativity on the Same Stage
Following the event, Prof. Dr. Selçuk Artut, a faculty member at Sabancı University's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, will evaluate the relationship between artificial intelligence and human creativity through artistic practices.
Prof. Dr. Artut's talk will address the intersection between artificial intelligence and human creativity, offering a perspective on how contemporary technologies are transforming artistic practice. Through real-world examples and current debates, the role of artificial intelligence in the creative process will be examined, and the ethical, cultural, and intellectual dimensions of this transformation will be explored. Participants are invited to consider this interaction between artificial intelligence and creativity from a multi-dimensional perspective.
Algorithms, Bots, and the Invisible Power of the Digital World
The Science Cafe event will also feature Dr. İnanç Arın, a faculty member at Sabancı University's Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, who will discuss the impact of artificial intelligence, machine learning, internet algorithms, and bots on daily life and the business world. In his talk, Dr. İnanç Arın will provide a clear framework for understanding how these technologies work, while addressing their effects on individuals and society through concrete examples from daily life. The talk will explore the extent to which the algorithms running behind many of the digital platforms we use today influence what we see, what we choose, and how we make decisions. Furthermore, the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence, the new ways of thinking it creates, and the new fields it opens up for young people in the world of the future will be evaluated with a curiosity-focused perspective. In her speech, Dr. Arın aims to contribute to students approaching this rapid transformation not with fear, but with scientific curiosity, critical thinking, and a desire for discovery.
Science Meets Society
The meeting, planned for university and high school students, aims to encourage young people to approach the rapidly changing technological world with scientific curiosity, critical thinking, and a desire for discovery.
“Science Cafe,” one of the important initiatives of the Science Communication Office of the CoHE, stands out as a series of public events that directly bring academics together with society. This platform, where participants can ask questions directly to experts, is an important science communication initiative aimed at increasing trust in science and spreading scientific thinking.
