Sabancı University Performing Arts Center Filled with Performing Arts in March

SGM Kasım

Sabancı University Performing Arts Center (SGM) is once again making its campus a meeting point for art with its selection ranging from theatre to jazz in March. The program, encompassing everything from women's experiences to memory, literature to music, brings together productions that both provoke thought and emotionally engage the audience.

A Great Confrontation in an Everyday Moment

Sabancı Performing Arts Center's March program opens with "45 Seconds," focusing on a moment that often seems ordinary in everyday life but can hold completely different meanings for women. Beginning with the phrase "Stand up," the internal reckoning, compressed into just 45 seconds, is brought to the stage through societal pressure, boundaries, and inner voices.

Written and directed by Aybike Turan, the play features Duygu Serin and Melda Narin Güler on stage. Melda Narin Güler is responsible for the lighting design, Begüm Altındiş for the costume design, Ata Berk Bingöl for the assistant directorial work, and Duygu Serin for the graphic design. The play, produced by Bi’ Tık Tiyatro, will meet the audience on March 3rd at 8:30 PM.

In the Footsteps of a Writer, In the Memory of a Nation

Inspired by the life and texts of Sevgi Soysal, “Sevgi Soysal Insists on Living” intertwines personal stories with collective memory. The narrative, which opens from a period in London, revolves around themes of friendship, love, illness, production, and resistance.

Duygu Dalyanoğlu, who wrote the text, also designed the project and is part of the cast. Directed by Aysel Yıldırım, the play features Banu Açıkdeniz, Burcu İsra Kanbakoğlu, Nihal Albayrak, and Zeynep Okan.

The dramaturgy is a collective effort; Ali Dur designed the stage, Banu Açıkdeniz did the choreography, Kenan Özcan designed the visuals, and Beril Sarıaltun was in charge of the sound and music. Ilker Ergün and Zîlan Kaki designed the lighting, while Büşra Karpuz, Duygu Dalyanoğlu, and Nilgün Ilgıcıoğlu designed the costumes. The play will be staged on March 11th at 8:30 PM.

A Mental Journey Between Reality and Fantasy

Florian Zeller's internationally acclaimed play "The Father (Le Père)" explores the dissolution of memory and the increasing blurring of the line between reality and fantasy through the lens of a father-daughter relationship. Drawing the audience into the character's mental world, the play offers a stage experience where the perception of time is disrupted.

Translated by Ezgi Coşkun and produced by Oyun Atölyesi, "The Father" is directed by Muharrem Özcan. The set design is by Kerem Çetinel, costume design by Makbule Mercan, movement design by Gizem Erdem, music by Tolga Çebi, and lighting design by Emir Tatlı.

The cast includes Haluk Bilginer, Özlem Zeynep Dinsel, Faruk Barman, Ezgi Coşkun, Mine Nur Şen, and Ufuk Tevge. The ensemble consists of Ceren Şık, Ezgi Metin, Arkan Mert Atakan, Berkay Tüfekçi, and Armanç Toktaş. “The Father” will be performed at SGM on March 18th at 8:30 PM.

Chekhov's Sisters Looking at Today

Inspired by Anton Chekhov's play Three Sisters, the contemporary adaptation "Olga, Masha, Irina – Again Three Sisters" speaks to today's world through the dreams, struggles, and hopes of three sisters.

Written by Oya Denizyararan and directed by Yarkın Ünsal, the play features Ceren Çiçek, Ecegül Karadeniz, and Songül Boztepe. The production reinterprets Chekhov's timeless characters with a contemporary mood. The play will be staged on March 25th at 8:00 PM.

A Rhythmic Farewell to March with Young Jazz Musicians

March at SGM concludes with a rhythmic finale at the IKSV Young Jazz Night. Trio, continuing the piano trio tradition with contemporary interpretations, include modern trio examples in its repertoire. The ensemble consists of İlayda Hatipoğlu on piano, Melih Can Yardı on electric bass, and Mehmet Hecebil on drums.

Another guest of the evening is KAOS, who blend jazz with rock and progressive music. The group consists of Ferdi Alnak on guitar, Yusuf Çebe on piano, Mert Şen on bass guitar, and Arda Usul on drums. The IKSV Young Jazz Night will take place on March 31st at 8:00 PM.
