As it does every year, Sakıp Sabancı Museum (SSM) invites children to a world full of creativity and fun with the workshops it organizes for the midterm break. The 2025 midterm break program offers rich content for children aged 5-12, from architecture to robotic coding, from the extraordinary works of German artist Georg Baselitz exhibited at SSM to the historical atmosphere of the Atlı Köşk and the museum’s Book Arts and Calligraphy Collection. These workshops will enrich children’s imaginations and ensure they have an unforgettable experience.
The Georg Baselitz: An Inverted World workshop, organized for children aged 5-7, will take place on Tuesday, January 21 between 12:00 and 13:30. During the workshop, children will visit Baselitz’s exhibition and be inspired by the artist’s inverted figures, and then they will design unique figures by shaping their own imaginations with clay.
In the Calligraphic Movements workshop organized for children aged 8-10 on Tuesday, January 21 between 14:00 and 15:30, children will have the opportunity to create their own words and patterns in a magical journey where letters transform into patterns by discovering the universal language of calligraphy.
Exploration Workshops with Arkki – Furniture Design: Emirgan's Furniture invites children aged 8-12 to a design-focused experience on Wednesday, January 22 between 13:00 and 16:00. In this workshop, children will design and produce their own seating units, taking inspiration from Emirgan's texture and considering ergonomics and user experience.
The Inverted Art Workshop Inspired by Georg Baselitz, organized for children aged 5-7, will take place on Thursday, January 23 between 12:00 and 13:30. In this workshop, children will explore Baselitz’s exhibition, discover his inverted world, and create their own inverted worlds using painting and drawing techniques on surfaces laid on the floor. On the same day, in the Seeing the World Inverted: In the Footsteps of Baselitz workshop organized for children aged 8-10 between 14:00 and 15:30, children will turn the world upside down in creative compositions they will produce using different techniques, inspired by the works in the ongoing exhibition at the SSM galleries.
The Shall We Look at the World Upside Down? workshop will be held on Friday, January 24 between 11:00 and 12:00 as an enjoyable event that children aged 3-5 can participate in with an adult. In this workshop, participants will explore Baselitz's animal figures and images, get inspired by the artist's works, and create original compositions.
In the More Than a Portrait workshop to be held on Saturday, January 25 between 12:00 and 13:30 for children aged 8-10, children will be inspired by portraits of Ottoman sultans, creatively combining the past and the present, and will create unique works by reflecting their own stories on the portraits.
In the Deer on Canvas workshop, which will be held with children aged 3-5 and an adult, storytelling and mini book design will be done with different art techniques. The event will be held on Sunday, January 26 between 12:00 and 13:00.
The Traces of My Dance workshop, where children aged 5-7 will explore the art of printing inspired by Baselitz’s dance-themed works and create their own designs, will be held on Sunday, January 26 between 14:00 and 15:30.
The Inverted Art:Being a Curator in a Museum workshop will be held for children aged 9-11 between 12:00 and 14:00 on Tuesday, January 28. In this workshop, participants will be a part of creative learning processes in a museum environment by making Baselitz’s works interactive with technological tools. In the Card Pass System: Museum Entrance workshop, which will be held on the same day between 15:00 and 17:00, children aged 9-11 will design a functional and innovative card pass system for museums using Lego sets.
The Exploration Workshops with Arkki – Fashion Design: From Patterns to Hats workshop will be held for children aged 8-12 on Wednesday, January 29 from 13:00 to 16:00. In this workshop, participants will hunt for patterns inspired by Emirgan and gain experience in disciplines such as architecture, design, and engineering by designing their own hats, thus developing their creativity and critical thinking skills.
In the Which Way Inverted Ceramics workshop to be held on Friday, January 31 from 13:00 to 15:00, children aged 7-10 will create inverted forms and make ceramic works inspired by Baselitz’s inverted figures.
Participation in the workshops, which will continue throughout the semester break and offer children the opportunity to experience different branches of art while having fun, is possible through the Sakıp Sabancı Museum website.
