Seminar of "The Transformation of Conflict and the Future of Peacemaking" by Jean-Marie Guéhenno

Our university will host Jean-Marie Guehenno, member of the United Nations Secretary-General’s High- Level Advisory Board on Mediation, and Columbia University professor.

Jean-Marie Guehenno, who also serves as the Director of the Kent Global Leadership Program on Conflict Resolution at Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), will give a special speech on "The Transformation of Conflict and the Future of Peacemaking" on Friday, February 16, 2024, on our Tuzla campus.

In his speech, Jean-Marie Guehenno will discuss the transformation of conflicts in international relations today, as well as the challenges this transformation poses in resolving conflicts.

All Sabancı University members are invited to the event, which will take place at 12.45 in the Cinema Hall.

About Jean-Marie Guehenno

Guéhenno previously served as United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations from 2000-2008. In that role, he led the largest expansion of peacekeeping in the history of the UN, overseeing approximately 130,000 staff on eighteen missions. Before joining the United Nations, Guéhenno served as director of policy planning in the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ambassador to the Western European Union, and chairman of the French Institute of Higher Defense Studies.

Jean-Marie Guéhenno is currently Arnold A. Saltzman Professor of Practice in International and Public Affairs; Director of SIPA’s Kent Global Leadership Program on Conflict Resolution, founded by Muhtar Kent; Director of International Conflict Resolution Specialization.
