Between 5 and 9 March, 2012, Sabancı University Model United Nations Club has attended to Model United Nations Turkey (MUNTR) Conference 2012 in Antalya.
They have finished the MUNTR expedition with six awards out of ten, which made SUMUN Turkey’s most prize winning MUN club. With Jawwad, Ridvan and Zeeshan winning the Best Delegate awards; and Damla, Irem and Reyhan taking the possession of Honorable Mention awards, SUMUN finished MUNTR in a high note. They are waiting for future challenges and keeping up the tradition of “Doing Their Best.”
The delegation comprised of 10 delegates; Damla Yıldız, Efecan Atılgan, İrem Boybat, Jawwad Jamal, Kaan Özgüney, Nesilhan Astan, Reyhan Ayas, Rıdvan Kahraman, Said Doğan, Zeeshan Panjwani, and one Under Secretary General Korhan Koçak.
SUMUN represented Germany and Cameroon in United Nations organs (such as the General Assembly and the Security Council) and also in international platforms such as African Union, GA-20 and Futuristic NATO.
They debated on issues regarding the present as well as future. Illicit trafficking, rights of children, intellectual property rights in medicine, stability in Africa, the Arab Spring, recovery from the global recession, World in 2025, protection of civilians, UN peacekeeping mission were among the most important topics of the discussions. With long restless days and fierce competition, they have formed many productive ideas and prepared and discussed many comprehensive resolutions.
