Sabancı University provided training entitled “Transformative Technologies, Risks Shaping the Future, and Accessing the Right Information in Digital World” in the Creative Technologies Atelier in Küçükköy. Teachers and students from various schools in Ayvalık attended the training, which was organized during the semester break with the support of the Ayvalık District Directorate of National Education.
Sabancı University’s Küçükköy Creative Technologies Atelier in Ayvalık hosted an important event during the semester break. From January 31 to February 5, 2022, 25 students from Ayvalık Anatolian High School and Ayvalık Atatürk Anatolian High School, 25 students from Halis Komili Primary School, and 21 teachers from various schools in Ayvalık received training in the Creative Technologies Atelier in Küçükköy.
Emre Erol, Foundations Development Director, who coordinates the common courses that constitute the special education model of Sabancı University, Emine Süphan Bakkal, Duygu Karaoğlan Altop, faculty members from the Foundations Development Program, İlkem Kayıcan, instructor from the School of Languages, and Nihal Öztolan Erol, Researcher from Sabancı University Nanotechnology Research and Application Center, delivered the training sessions which were realized with the support of Carrefoursa, Enerjisa Energy, and Teknosa, the technology sponsor of Küçükköy. Students and teachers also had the opportunity to attend the training sessions online.
The main subjects covered in the training sessions included scientific accumulation behind the global warming and the climate change and risks for the future, basics of transformative technologies such as gene regulation and algorithms, potential risks and opportunities, and case verification in the intensive digital information environment of the day. In this framework, topics such as water stress, climate migration, and the impact of digital world on politics and identities were covered in the training sessions held with students and teachers. In addition, information was provided to students and teachers about soilless farming with demonstrations.
Established in 2019, the Küçükköy Creative Technologies Atelier of Sabancı University organizes technology-focused courses for the benefit of society observing children’s right to education and equality. The Creative Technologies Atelier hosts various projects to ensure that young people and women assume leading roles in education and in the future. Training activities in the Creative Technologies Atelier are carried out by faculty members and students of Sabancı University. Children in the 8-15 age group and women are prioritized for training.
