Sabancı University Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences member Murat Germen’s work is on exhibition at the Toronto Aga Khan Museum in Canada. The "A City Transformed: Images of Istanbul Then and Now" exhibition will be available for viewing until June 26, 2016.
The experimental and documentary imagery of photographic questioning created by Murat Germen are displayed alongside photographs from the Ömer M. Koç collection in the Aga Khan Museum designed by Japanese architect Fumihiko Maki. Albums, panoramas, and individual photographs from the 1850s to the early 1900s borrowed from the Ömer M. Koç private collection are combined with 21st-century views of "New Istanbul" photographed by Murat Germen that seem almost futuristic in their rendering of scale and space, witnessing a succession of empires, the migration of peoples, and astounding urban growth. This is the first time Murat Germen's supersized moving image projections and panoramas of new Istanbul taken by drones are offered for public viewing.
