As part of the “Earthquake Resilient Cities: Ayvalık” project, conducted by Sabancı University's Creative Technologies Atelier, a significant scientific visit and installation work took place on February 23, 2026. Researchers Cengiz Tapırdamaz and Adnan Arslan from TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center, a stakeholder in the project, visited the atelier and provided technical support to contribute to earthquake monitoring studies.
During the visit, the installation of seismograph samples, donated to the atelier by TÜBİTAK and previously actively used in Türkiye, was completed. Following the installation, a comprehensive training session on the working principles of the devices, earthquake recording systems, and the measurement of ground motions was given to the students of Ayvalık Anatolian High School, who are part of the project team, along with project advisor Prof. Dr. Sadi Küleli.
The researchers also donated a special collection of valuable mineral samples to the atelier, which will contribute to geology and earth sciences education. These donations will strengthen educational activities aimed at increasing disaster awareness and scientific understanding among young people.
Officials from Sabancı University's Creative Technologies Atelier thanked Cengiz Tapırdamaz and Adnan Arslan for their contributions and support to the project, noting that the seismographs and mineral collection have begun to be exhibited at the atelier. Visitors will have the opportunity to see the atelier firsthand and learn about earthquake measurement systems.
The project aims to increase earthquake awareness, especially among young people in Ayvalık, and to create social awareness about disaster-prepared and resilient cities
