Students from the Sabancı University Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences conduct applied research in the Sabancı University and IHP Microelectronics Joint Lab.
Sabancı University Electronic Engineering students are doing an internship in the Microelectronics - Joint Virtual Excellence Lab, a facility built on the “More-than-Moore” concept and inaugurated in Frankfurt in 2014 as the culmination of the prolific cooperation between the Sabancı University Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences' Microelectronic Research Group and the leading German science center IHP-Microelectronics since 2008.
"This year is a record number of students“, said Dr. Mehmet Kaynak, department head at IHP's Technology Department and Sabancı University Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences professor. Nine students from Sabancı University in Istanbul have just started their three months internship in the technology department. They perform research on the common projects within the Joint Lab of IHP and Sabancı University and give also support to IHP's different projects with the European Union or the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as well.
Sabancı University Electronic Engineering senior student Melih Arda Düzçeker said the following about his internship experience: “I could certainly state that IHP is great institution connecting academia and industry. Especially, Joint Lab provides a great opportunity to work on new technologies, innovative projects continuously throughout the year by utilizing the high competence of IHP on state-of-art technologies.”
Since 2008, more than 50 students had the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies under the IHP-Sabancı University cooperation. “For us it is an unique chance to access well qualified young students who might be working with us on a long term basis”, says Prof. Bernd Tillack, Scientific director of IHP. Moreover, it is a great opportunity for students to learn more about research life in Germany and Europe as well as getting aware of worldwide research topics, adds Dr. Mehmet Kaynak who supervises the group.
